The Moolman family's lockdown story

Sonja Moolman and family during lockdown.

12 June 2020

These photos were taken in front of Sonja's practice. Also at literally at the "front steps". After 10 years they are moving from Willowbridge North to Willowbridge South and it was special capturing the practise's entrance before they moved.

I asked Sonja a few questions on the effect lockdown had on them as a family as well as on her work life:

What is the worst thing for you about the lockdown?
The timing... My life got thrown upside down, but I believe there is a reason for it.

How was your work-life affected? (Could you work and if not - what did you do about it?).
We had to close because eye care wasn't regarded as essential... Then we started to work in groups helping people with emergencies. We were supposed to relocate and all of COVID threw us out... We couldn't move until level 4 the second week, we then couldn't move into our new building... And everything is in storage.

How did you overcome difficulties and adapt during this time?
By believing this time was given to rethink and reorganize and realize God is totally in control.

What is the best thing about lockdown or is there something you and the kids are maybe going to miss once lockdown is over?
I am going to say time with kids... Even though I couldn't be there the whole time it felt like we connected more.

What did you learn from lockdown? Is there maybe something you would keep on doing even after lockdown is over? (or do differently?).
I think I have learned to cope with change... And readapt. I definitely need it if we are going to start up again.

What are you missing the most that you can't do right now (or especially missed during L5).
My test room. I am at my happiest and feel free when I am in there, it's my happy place.

Is there anything interesting you and your family did in terms of utilizing your space and keeping busy?
Multitasking verseker opgeskerp!
