Mom and her kids during lockdown.

13 June 2020

Every front steps shoot is special for me for a different reason, because every story is unique. What I love about Mitzi's story is the fact that Mitzi also grew up in this same house they are currently living in. This front door is also where her Grade 1 photos and matric dance photos were taken...and now their lockdown photos and possibly their last family photos as they are emigrating to Scotland to join her husband soon...

As with the other front steps shoots I asked Mitzi a few questions on how they experienced lockdown:

What is the worst thing for you about the lockdown?
Seeing how so many people lose their income and businesses that they have put years of hard work and passion into has been quite emotional for me. And I really miss my domestic help in the house!

How was your work-life affected during the lockdown?
I work in the events industry and we still don't know when we will be able to host events again. Even when we are allowed to host events, we believe events will never be like we are used to. We are also in the process om emigrating, so all our plans are currently on hold.

How did you overcome difficulties and adapt during this time?
We have been forced to take a step out of our busy lifestyles and gave us an opportunity to focus on each other. This time with my children has been very special to me.

What is the best thing about lockdown or is there something you and the kids are maybe going to miss once lockdown is over?
The best for me is sleeping late every morning and seeing my children develop daily.

What did you learn from lockdown? Is there maybe something you would keep on doing even after lockdown is over?
I learnt that people's opinions will change over time and we all have different opinions. If we can learn to respect each other for their opinions and not force our opinions onto other people, we can all live a much more peaceful life.

What are you missing the most that you can't do right now, or especially during level 5?
General social interaction and nature outings.

Is there anything interesting you and your family did in terms of utilizing your space and keeping busy?
We have been baking, doing arts and crafts, video call family and friends, play with mud, I learnt to braai, and I have been doing many home workouts and running loops around our yard to stay fit.
